“Bike Rack Blues”
The City of Bloomington was SO kind in supplying our Dunn Shop with gorgeous green sturdy bike racks that match those downtown. We promote biking to work and everywhere else…just watch out for the out-of-town drivers!!! “One Way” must mean something else outside of Bloomington! These bad boys are bolted into the cement patio out front…good luck stealing these bike racks after a long night of drinking as a frat prank or to have as your own skateboard park, yes, it has happened. Sad and quite comical that we kept walking up to open the store in the morning and realizing that we were once again sans bike rack. Let me tell you, those racks are not lightweight and even withstood being hit by a curb-wandering vehicle one night. Wish we could have caught the culprits on video just once to watch over and over again and laugh at their shenanigans! This is just one of the many perks of being on the Kirwood/ Campus walk that we so love and call home. We finally purchased a smaller bike rack but unfortunately it was just too small to meet the needs of our environmentally friendly and bike loving guests and coworkers. One of our favorite regulars, who happens to work for the city and knew much of our “Bike Rack Blues” said he just might be able to come to our rescue. A week later, two capable men showed up with bike racks and power tools in hand. When the cement dust cleared we were thrilled to see our 3 new additions!!!
Moral of the story…I know, us..morals??? Yes it is true…we have a “hole” lot of them!
Out of one good deed comes many….we were then able to donate our smaller, but new and beautiful, bike rack to the amazing volunteers at Mother Hubbards Cupboard who are starting up a bike delivery service to those in need in our community. What a great way to end our “Bike Rack Blues”! Neighbors helping neighbors.
We love this town!!!
